EXP. Restaurant

Exprestaurant creates a mood that reflects both the city and country, with the crisp fresh instance of ‘out the back garden ingredients’ to the modern style of dining often encountered in a city setting.

The belching hibachi grill envelopes and greets patrons with a salivating waft of the chef’s latest concoctions. Executive Chef and owner Frank Fawkner has done well to construct a menu that transcends everything that Hunter Valley restaurants ‘should’ stand for. And it’s obvious that little to no integrity is ever sacrificed at this establishment.

Some samples of menu eye-candy that stood out for us:

Koshihikari XO Risotto

Redgate Farm Duck Breast, king oyster mushroom

Hiramasa Kingfish

Crumpet & Caviar

The best way to find out which restaurants in the Hunter Valley are the best, is to get out there, order a banquet and trust the Som to pair it with a few local wines. A general rule of green thumb, drink where things are grown. A natural connection between soils and nutrients is going to lift the flavours of both the food and wine. We say this within the confines of general pairing parameters.
