Swan Valley Winery Restaurants: For When You Get Peckish

by Dylan Wells September 30, 2022
written by Dylan Wells

The rich historical region of Swan Valley is just a short 30-minute drive from Perth’s city centre.

The region is characterised by its small farms and vineyards that deliver a unique rural experience on the edge of Perth’s outer suburbs.

It is the oldest growing wine region in Western Australia — the first vines were planted way back in the 1830s after British colonists settled in 1829 and began growing crops and raising livestock.

Swan Valley has been a small yet very important region in WA for 190 years. Today, it’s home to a number of award-winning wineries that embrace both traditional and modern winemaking techniques.

The region is also famous for its quality winery restaurants that prioritise the use of local seasonal produce to create unique, memorable menus.

This is your guide to Swan Valley winery restaurants — every bite is worth the trip.

Swan Valley Wineries with Restaurants

A good-quality wine is a joy all on its own, but no one can deny that every glass is made better by a well-considered dish.

That’s why we’ve collated a list of the best Swan Valley wineries with restaurants. Whether you’re after a hearty meal or a light lunch, with this selection, you’ll have no trouble finding something to satisfy your cravings.

Looking for something substantial to soak up that glass (or four)? These are our top five picks for winery restaurants offering a la carte and set menu services.

Mandoon Estate

swan valley restaurants
Images sourced from https://www.facebook.com/mandoonestate

Mandoon Estate’s history is as rich and unique as its food and wine offerings.

The winery and restaurant that exist today were established in 2010, with the current owners working to preserve the historical heritage of the property while showcasing the potential of the Swan Valley as a wine region.

Today, Mandoon Estate focuses on producing a boutique range of quality wines from low-yielding, single-vineyard sites.

Feeling hungry at Mandoon Estate? You have three dining experiences to choose from!

The Wild Swan Restaurant delivers a contemporary, luxury dining experience, so sit back and enjoy while overlooking the manicured gardens and Llawn. Indulge in the a la carte and tasting menus, which feature modern Australian dishes designed to match Mandoon’s award-winning wines and beers.

For a more relaxed vibe, the Homestead Brewery is your go-to. You can choose a table indoors during the cooler months, or take a seat on the shaded deck overlooking the vines when the sun’s shining. The menu features bold flavours and dishes to complement the brews, with tapas, burgers, pizzas and hearty mains on offer. Visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner any day of the week.

On a casual afternoon, settle in while the kids play and grab a table or picnic rug on the Lawn. Here, you can enjoy a gourmet picnic! It’s a strictly no BYO establishment, but that won’t be a problem — the picnic menu includes pizzas, spit roast meats, cheeses, salads, and snacks, as well as options for the kiddos.

When it comes to quality food, Mandoon Estate takes the lead. They make everything from scratch!

Mandoon Estate certainly has its fans — it was Western Australia’s Most Awarded Boutique Winery from 2012 to 2017.

RiverBank Estate Winery

The RiverBank Estate Winery opened its doors in 1988, while its restaurant came to be in 1999.

The stunning natural views are something to behold; the establishment is situated on the river bank of the Swan River and features a manicured lawn overlooking the vineyards.

RiverBank’s vineyards stretch across 30 acres and are made up of 18 different types of wine grapes growing on low-yielding vines. The wine varieties include Verdelho, Semillon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir.

After exploring the vineyard and lawn, head into the restaurant to dine on local produce and home-grown wines while overlooking the Swan River.

The restaurant boasts an incredible Mediterranean and Italian-inspired a la carte menu, which is open for lunch from Wednesday to Sunday. And for your little ones, RiverBank has a dedicated kids menu.

If there’s a group of you, you won’t go hungry — there’s a large group menu available, too. All menus incorporate seasonal and local produce.

With RiverBank Estate, the proof is in the long list of awards. The 2021 Halliday Wine Companion awarded the estate a 5-star rating and placed it in the Top Ten for the Dark Horse Wineries. RiverBank was also awarded Gourmet Traveller WINE’s Best Additional Experience 2020, and Best Small Cellar Door in Swan Valley in 2019.

The Abbey at Chesters

swan valley restaurant
Images sourced from https://www.facebook.com/Theabbeyau/

In 1883, a Mr Sidney Chester purchased 200 acres of land and built two homes upon that land.

The second home was built on a hill of sand some 250 metres away from where the Abbey at Chesters, as we know it, stands today.

The Chesters restaurant building, which is now named The Abbey, was born in 1890 as a fruit drying shed. It was later expanded to double its size and converted to a stable, and it stayed that way until 1998.

In 2002 the current owner revamped the shed with a concrete floor and converted the space into a restaurant. The tables and counter in the restaurant were even made from the stable stall wall boards to pay homage to the building’s history.

The restaurant is relaxed, warm, and inviting, with both indoor and alfresco dining. Browse the extensive breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, chocked full of fresh seasonal produce.

It goes without saying that you’ll also be adding an award-winning glass of wine to each course!

Ekhidna Wine Restaurant

Ekhidna Wine Restaurant is named after the Goddess Ekhidna, mythology’s ‘she’ viper that was half nymph, half snake, and mother of all monsters and defender of vineyards.

Of course, the name also pays homage to our beloved Aussie echidna.

The menu at Ekhidna Wine Restaurant showcases the very best of locally-sourced produce and the highest quality international ingredients.

Ekhidna delivers a truly memorable dining experience, with stunning views and exquisite dishes on offer.

The menus change seasonally; in winter, indulge in a sensational five-spice squid, rich mushroom risotto, or perfectly cooked market beef. For dessert, the flavourful chocolate mousse and traditional lemon crumble are winners.

Ekhidna’s winemaker owner Matt Rechner is always on-hand to answer any questions and pointers on your wine selection.

Round out your experience with a tasting of Matt’s handcrafted wines and beers at the cellar door.

The Salopian Inn

Images Sourced From https://www.facebook.com/SalopianInn

This beautifully restored 1851 homestead is now home to an old red wine cellar and quaint restaurant.

The Salopian Inn sits on the corner of Main and McMurty Road, its old rooms and nooks now occupied by dining tables.

With an open kitchen and fireplace, the Inn has a cozy, homely feel. There are even on-site veggie patches which provide fruit, vegetables, and herbs to the restaurant.

The menu tells an eclectic, edible story of chef Kerena’s culinary journey and desire to learn more, cook more, and eat more. Kerena and the team make everything from scratch, using local seasonal produce, goodies from the veggie patch, locally sourced beef, lamb, poultry, Berkshire pork, and South Australian ethically-sourced seafood.

The tasting menu allows you to explore all that the garden, paddock, and sea have to offer, while the seasonally-changing a la carte menu puts the choice in your hands.

Pair your meal with a glass from the Inn’s large selection of local and international wines.

Restaurants in the King Valley

Restaurants in the King Valley

by Dylan Wells June 16, 2022
written by Dylan Wells

Sip that mountain air and escape the smog, just for a second. Steep valleys and winding roads meander across tree canopies. There are plenty of walking trails, Instagrahmable sunsets, and the calibre of restaurants in the King Valley is quite astonishing considering you’re out in the sticks.

Just so you don’t have to look at some dodgy review site only to find their recommendations were mediocre at best, us Victorian locals at Wine Regions Australia have taken the liberty to give you a cheesy slice of the best King Valley restaurants on offer.

It’s important to mention that there isn’t a heap of versatility in relation to cuisine in the King Valley – there is a prominent Italian influence, and it’s reflected quite clearly on most menus you’ll come across.

With that in mind, let’s begin.

King River Cafe

Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/KingRiverCafe

Naturally, in a wine region, most of your eating experiences will take place during the day, pardon a few venues and pubs tending to the locals and committed tourists staying a couple of nights.

But don’t let the name fool you, this cafe stays open for dinner, and they serve a classic menu you’d expect to see out in the countryside; we’re talking beef fillet with grilled mushroom with bearnaise sauce, pork loin with parsnip puree, Confit duck with roast beetroots. All the good hearty stuff.

The service is homely, as you’d expect from a family-owned restaurant. But you can tell that they understand the premise of return customers, not turn and burn.

Have a dabble; you won’t be disappointed.

Brown Brothers Winery

Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/BrownBrothersWinery

Australian wineries persistently maintain the gold standard for sustainability and quality in experience. The ‘paddock to plate’ philosophy or rather, ‘way of life’ was almost coined by winery restaurants in Oz simply due to the convenience. The winemakers are growing grapes and concocting delicious vino, it makes sense that the chefs follow in their footsteps and use this agricultural knowledge to grow the freshest of ingredients.

A restaurant garden also justifies a slight increase in prices. What would you rather, a waxy Woolworths carrot or an organic heirloom carrot that grew next to the wine your sommelier has recommended for you?

Pizzini Wines

Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/PizziniWines

Most don’t know but one of the many attributes that drive the quality and passion for fine foods and restaurants in the King Valley is its Mediterranean influence. Many Italian families moved to the King Valley in the 1940s in search of fertile farmland for growing tobacco and wine. It was in the King Valley that prosecco was made famous in Australia. And this slice of history reflects on the gorgeous food served up at Pizzini Wines.

Pizzini Wines delivers a modern Italian menu – some classic dishes with a spin of King Valley flair. They also offer traditional Italian cooking classes for those that wish to really get in the spirit of food and culture.

We recommend having a squiz at their package offerings – trekking through the King Valley, journey with the maker, it all sounds pretty delish.

The best thing of all, they have live music on the weekends, so call in advance to make sure there’s a spot for your fine self.

Their Italian heritage is reflected in the menu with fresh ingredients and all the flavour pairings you’d like to see on an Italian menu;

Dal Zotto Wines

Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/dalzotto.wines

Look out, you guessed it, Italian food. But with a fantastic selection of wood-fired pizzas. Dine amongst the trees on a long table, buzzing laughter, flowing wine, and homely and generous service – that’s Trattoria Restaurant.

King Valley restaurants have really understood the brief when it comes to country hospitality. So often we’ve ventured to wineries to find unenthused service and it’s not something that makes you desire a return. This negative experience can reflect on the region as a whole, and it’s not fair on the restaurants, wineries, artisans and locals giving it a red hot crack and creating an experience tourists will rave about, inspiring them to plan their next trip!

Enough venting… Elena and Otto Dal Zotta founded this fine establishment, but it’s their sons that run the place now – however, you will still see Elena in the kitchen garden tending to the crops nurtured and picked for the menu. To complement the crisp ingredients, we recommend the Dal Zotto Tabelo Preseco; it’s a beautiful wine with a 94 point score from James Halliday.

Just as you thought Italian was the only source of food you were going to find amongst the number of King Valley restaurants on offer… Gamze Smokehouse is an absolute must-visit. The heritage hall transformed restaurant is an immersive experience – the smells hit the salivate button almost instantly. But the food is quick, and boy is it delicious.

They do the quality, fast-food style cuisine really well. Beef burgers, Reubens, footlong Kransky hotdogs, rack of ribs – and so on. If you’ve exhausted your wine palette over the previous couple of days spent in the King Valley, the Smokehouse has a selection of craft beers/ and a few normal ones to assist the copious dishes you’ll inevitably consume.

EXP. Restaurant

Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/exprestaurant/

Exprestaurant creates a mood that reflects both the city and country, with the crisp fresh instance of ‘out the back garden ingredients’ to the modern style of dining often encountered in a city setting.

The belching hibachi grill envelopes and greets patrons with a salivating waft of the chef’s latest concoctions. Executive Chef and owner Frank Fawkner has done well to construct a menu that transcends everything that Hunter Valley restaurants ‘should’ stand for. And it’s obvious that little to no integrity is ever sacrificed at this establishment.

Some samples of menu eye-candy that stood out for us:

Koshihikari XO Risotto

Redgate Farm Duck Breast, king oyster mushroom

Hunter Valley Restaurants

The best way to find out which restaurants in the Hunter Valley are the best, is to get out there, order a banquet and trust the Som to pair it with a few local wines. A general rule of green thumb, drink where things are grown. A natural connection between soils and nutrients is going to lift the flavours of both the food and wine. We say this within the confines of general pairing parameters.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our list of Hunter Valley Restaurants! Happy trails!

6 Yarra Valley Winery Restaurants – A Bucket List Selection

by Dylan Wells January 26, 2022
written by Dylan Wells

If you’ve come to this page because you’re planning a trip to Yarra Valley, firstly, jealous…  secondly, well done –  this industry needs our support at the moment and one of the only ways to do that is getting out into regional Victoria and supporting our local winemakers, vineyard owners, and the thousands of workers the wine industry employs.

Naturally, you want to uncover the best Yarra Valley winery restaurants, that way there’s no trial and error (we’ve done it for you). So we’re gonna give you a bucket list to tick off and if you’re staying for a week maybe you’ll get to try more than a few.

We always like to include a little bit of information about the region. Honestly, it does help to know a splash of history and a dollop of wine knowledge, so you can go into battle with your armour on. Wine tastings can be a bit of an information overload, especially after the third glass. Read on to get the gist of what they’ll tell you (we won’t bore you with anything too fancy).

The Yarra Valley Wine Region

The Yarra Valley wine region is a unique mix of culture, history, and community. The winemaking tradition in the Yarra Valley isn’t just about making a decent bottle; it’s also about creating a network of wine enthusiasts who are passing on the country’s centuries-old enthusiasm.

There are 80 Yarra Valley wineries that cover 9900 acres, each with its own backstory to tell. The region’s appreciation for the rich history runs deep, and most winemakers would be delighted to share it with you. During peak season, when traffic from Melbourne is high, the Yarra Valley wine area receives a lot of attention; so be sure to book well in advance.

The Yarra Valley, located on the southern fringe of Port Phillip Bay and Mornington Peninsula, is a cool-climate area owing to its high elevation and proximity to the ocean. The cool climate is ideal for Yarra Valley wineries, vineyards, and particularly Pinot noir, which accounts for 29 percent of production and Chardonnay at 25 %.

The region has been making wine for almost 170 years, with the first vintage being produced in 1845. The Yarra Valley was the site of Victoria’s first vines, which were planted in 1838, making it the state’s oldest wine-producing region.

Yarra Valley Winery Accommodation

If you plan on visiting more than a day’s worth of wineries, you’re going to need a solid sleep strategy –  take into consideration distance to accommodation, the surrounding selection of wineries, and obviously the quality of the abode. Here’s a few options for Yarra Valley winery accommodation that we frequent whenever we’re in the region.

  • Balgownie Estate
  • Chateau Yering
  • Holly Lane Mews
  • Araluen Boutique Villas and Lodge

6 Yarra Valley Winery/Restaurants

Let’s jump into the juicy goss on a few Yarra Valley winery restaurants that we at Wine Regions know you’ll be telling mum about.

The Stables at Stones

Imaged Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/thestablesatstones

The historical stables served as a private quarters for the farm hands and animals. Now built and re-decorated, the establishment has a Victorian era decor mixed with a plant lover’s Instagram to create an environment that exudes quality and is equally replicated through the menu and service.

The menu captures the fresh bursts of flavour, the ebbs and flows of seasonality meshed with the apparent wealth of experience showcased by the head and executive chef. The front of house show pride in their work, with a hint of humour coated with professionalism which we can all attest, is the final piece of the puzzle to a stellar dining experience.

Coombe Yarra Valley

Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/coombeyarravalley

An obvious selection to a list of the best restaurants in Yarra Valley, Coombe is an industry standard for what restaurants should strive for. Most of them menu uses state grown produce; vegetables are crisp as if they were plucked from the earth seconds before it was thrown into a pan or served ‘as is’ on your plate

Melba Gin Cured Trout with spanner crab – sea herbs and Yarra Valley smoked salmon caviar – If that isn’t the image of decadence…

To match the garden party setting upon which the restaurant overlooks, Coombe Yarra Valley also offers a high tea packed with the usual suspects like scones with jam and cream, cakes, desserts, savouries, and sparkling wine pretty much on tap.

Bianchet Yarra Valley

Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/BianchetYarraVallley

Surging in at number three (not in any particular order) of Yarra Valley winery restaurants, Bianchet is a French-styled bistro that emphasises bold flavours simplicity in ingredients but absolute perfection in execution.

As most restaurants in Yarra Valley should (but don’t), Bianchet grows a lot of their produce in the surrounding gardens. No soggy tomatoes or bendy carrots in this restaurant.

You can expect grande servings at the table – sample the Gippsland Black Angus Prime Cut, braised daikon, mushroom, Pommes puree or the Gold Band Snapper, Bouillabaisse, king prawn, fennel.

Their plating is delicate with great attention to detail. Almost a shame to lick the plate… almost.

Oak Ridge Wines

Oakridge Wines’ approach of combining handcrafted wines with gourmet cuisine in an aesthetically appealing way is, quite simply, perfection.

The winery, which was founded in 1978, is a family-owned operation. Well known for its awards but even more so for the ongoing compliments via word of mouth spread by the folk that have dined at this Yarra Valley Winery restaurant and sampled the inspiring menu.

Executive Chef Aaron Brodie’s philosophy for choosing the menu’s direction is actually not to choose at all, he let’s the garden guide his hand, acting as a meer translater of taste.
Charred rainbow trout, miso, smoked trout soy, onion weed and sesame – matched with the 2019 Vineyard Series Henk Chardonnay – sounds like a match for the gods.

Tour the grounds, they may even show you their incredible kitchen garden, not to mention the lushious fields of vines that tie the knot on the fantastic aesthetics that this establishment’s got going on.

Fondata 1872

Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/Fondata1872

I think it’s always important to include at least one traditional Italian restaurant when recommending in the Yarra. There is an incredible Mediterranean influence in Victorian wine culture which is one of the reasons you’ll find wood-fired pizza on 40 % of menus through every region.

But Fondata 1872 has gone above and beyond wood-fired pizzas. Find zucchini flower stuffed with ricotta and lemon basil pesto, or pan fried barramundi with celeriac puree and almonds or if you’re a shiraz tragic then the 300 g Wagyu porterhouse with potatoes and jus.

Head Chef Christopher Lillico also hosts a traditional Italian cooking class once a month (that sells out very quickly we might add). You get to partake in practicing some of Fondata’s trade secrets guided by the very best. This includes making and rolling gnocchi and serving it up in two of Fondatas famous dishes – the fried gnocchi, pumpkin, and sage, and the Ricotta gnocchi, tomato ragu, fior di latte and basil.

Beechworth Restaurants – A Smorgasbord of Options

by Dylan Wells November 24, 2021
written by Dylan Wells

Straight outta the streets of Melbourne, thank goodness you escaped the concrete jungle for a while, or, maybe you’re planning on it, but your trip has been smothered with a pillow by big Dan Andrews.

Well, lockdown or no lockdown, we’re going to offer you a smorgasbord of Beechworth restaurants, so once you get to the region, you’re not trying to figure it out on the job. We’ll talk a bit about the best Beechworth winery restaurants and some killer wineries in general – what kind of wine informational platform would we be if we didn’t.

Wine Regions in Victoria: The Ultimate Wine Guide

Beechworth Wineries

First off the hitlist (besides Dan Andrews) is a brief informational on the best wineries in Beechworth – for when you’re roaming the dusty back roads unsure of where to venture.

Eldorado Road

beechworth restaurants
Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/eldoradoroadwines/

Eldorado has a back alley courtyard in Florence kind of vibe. Even though it’s not a winery per se, they do make wines and sell them there plus, this is our article, and we can say whatever we want. That escalated quickly. Anyway, this restaurant/wine bar/winery has won a heap of awards for best cellar door in Victoria bestowed unto thee by the one and only Gourmet Traveller.

If you’re visiting in the summer, try their 2021 Dreamfield Fiano; in the words of the winemaker, “Think peach, white flowers and grapefruit. A beautifully balanced wine”.

Star Lane Winery

beechworth wineries
Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/starlanewinery

Star Lane isn’t your typical winery; they are pioneering a new way of thinking and working among Australian vignerons (grape growers) and winemakers. The first Shiraz matured in Red Gum wood was created by Star Lane. The employment of indigenous materials reflects a sense of national pride for cultural identity and respect for the land and Custodians past, present and future.

The estate sits at the centre of gravity, surrounded by hills and vines. An idyllic perspective of what a winery should look like, they have stumbled on a slice of paradise and worked hard to transform the land into an abundant vineyard.

Indigo Vineyard

Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/IndigoVineyard/

Indigo almost looks like a mirage as you approach its destination. The lush green vines of the oasis are nestled in the bushlands between Beechworth and Wangaratta, just a stone’s throw from the Victorian Alps.

Indigo provides a variety of activities. Their wine tour tastings, wine trail lunches, and the Indigo Mountainbike Trail are just a few options. It’d be a crime not to spend a day or two winding through the Indigo Vineyard trying their delectable gourmet platters and partaking in copious (but responsible) amounts of wine flowing freely.

Wine Regions Take on ‘the Best Beechworth Restaurants’

Now that you’ve been exposed to our take on the amazing wineries in Beechworth, you can tick that off the list. Yet still, you can guarantee that 90 % of wineries will close at night, so you need a solid plan on where you’re going to eat out, that’s is, if you’ve found some accommodation and you’re staying a few days.

Let’s take a look.

Project Forty Nine

Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/ProjectFortyNine/

This humble establishment collates the toil and prosperity of the local farmers, winemakers and artisans of the region, incorporating the ingredients on their menu and available for purchase in the deli.

They’ve ticked all boxes really. If you want to take a little slice of Beechworth back to the big smoke, grab a basket of goodies. If you wanted to adventure the surrounding rock formations in search of your very own million-dollar view, take a platter and a bottle. Or, if you’re weary from the day’s frivolities, just order in from their Italian deli styled menu.

Add this one to your hitlist of Beechworth restaurants for sure.

Project Forty Nine

Provenance

At the heart of the quaint little town, this Beechworth restaurant captures the benchmark of quality. A display of traditional Japanese cuisine (at its finest) Michael Ryan and his Wife Jeanette Henderson have done well to create an authentic culinary experience that in a way seems almost surreal.

There you are in a town of pubs, breweries, and wineries and nestled in amongst the rural normality is… actually another building that slots right into the decor. That’s right!, you couldn’t possibly anticipate a two-hatted Japanese restaurant.

You can tell that Michael’s passion is channelled through the meticulous nature of his menu and management. He’s even teamed up with Epicurious Tours, offering guided tours to Japan that include cooking classes, back-end food markets, and exclusive reservations at his favourite restaurants around Tokyo, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Hiroshima and Naoshima Island.

There you have it, number 1 on our list of Beechworth restaurants. Then again, if you’d eaten there before, there’d be zero surprise – absolute banger.

Providence

Empire Hotel

Images sourced from https://www.facebook.com/EMPIREHOTELBEECHWORTH/

The Empire Hotel is smart. They took the trend of quality put forth by the one and only Providence, and they evolved or ‘under-dressed’ the concept into a style of eating that you could certainly dabble in daily.

The menu showcases bold Japanese pub flavours and spins on classics like the ‘gruyere and kimchi mac’n cheese balls with gochujang mayo’. With the snack like format available, it’s definitely optimised for a day session, but that’s not to say the locals don’t turn it up at night.

Throw in some live entertainment, and a different sort at that – anything from open mic story nights, local and national comedy acts, and authentic folk music that you assume they’d be internationally acclaimed, but instead, they live in their van travelling to regional pubs putting on stellar shows.

Let your hair down for a night and visit the Empire Hotel, definitely one of the better restaurants in Beechworth.

Empire Hotel

The Ox and Hound

Beechworth restaurants
Images Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/oxandhound/

It’s as if you had stumbled across a quaint village restaurant on the outskirts of Bordeaux. There’s an artillery of exotic wines on their list, predominantly hailing from Europe, which pairs well with the authentic French flavours.

Expect a menu packed with inviting bistro classics such as chicken liver parfait, goat cheese souffle, and fettuccine with wild rabbit. The Ox and Hound, or to be more specific, Executive Chef Sean Ford, cultivates a kitchen garden procuring particular varieties of heirloom veggies and fruit exclusive to the restaurant.

You pay an extra penny or two for the sake of quality but, to be honest, if it means we don’t have to eat that steroid-filled, jacked-up fake produce that the conglomerates dish out, we’re happy!

We understand you can’t visit every Beechworth restaurant we mention, which is why you have an excuse to come back! Don’t overdo it… we find that tackling too much on a wine holiday results in needing a holiday from your holiday. Which sucks because you go back to work tired…

The Ox and Hound

The Beechworth Bakery

Image Sourced from https://www.facebook.com/Beechworth.Bakery

You may scoff at this suggestion, and okay, it’s not a restaurant, but this place has a reputation far and wide for being one of the best bakeries around. Look, every regional town in Victoria will say that they have the best bakery going, but until you’ve tasted the Ned Kelly pie, you can’t diss their claim.

Buttery pastry, quality house-made fillings (none of that National Pie packet mix), and a selection on all the go-to flavours with the addition of a few spins like the butter chicken, smoky pork and bourbon, and the country chicken and leek.

Not bad for a quick bite before a big day of exploring.

Wine Region’s take on Beechworth Restaurants

Sometimes regional restaurants can be hit and miss, staff are complacent without hustle, and unless you’re old Joe or Bessie that come in every night for a counterie, you’re not going to get good service.

But the quiver of Beechworth restaurants that we’ve mentioned realise that producing absolute quality is imperative to the thriving hoards of tourists that bring vibrancy to their humble economy.  100 % would recommend a cheeky visit to this integral ode to wine culture in Australia.
