Yarra Valley Accommodation: 6 Stays You Must Experience

The best thing about Australian cities is how close they are to wide-open spaces. You can find forgotten beaches, go bush, or – our favourite, naturally – hit up a nearby wine region. Melbourne is no exception: the famed Yarra Valley sits right at its edge. Cool climate wines, sweeping views of farmland and the Dandenong Ranges – all that’s missing is you! But you’ll need a place to stay, of course. . .  So, we here at Wine Regions have combed the area, sussing out the best hotels and Yarra Valley accommodation, both on and near the region’s top-notch wineries, and made a list of our favourites. You’re welcome.

Yarra Valley Winery Accommodation

There’s just something about staying on a vineyard that is euphoric and dream like. You also don’t have to walk very far after your second tasting!

Balgownie Estate

Balgownie Estate is one of the premier attractions in the region, offering not only five-star Yarra Valley accommodation but a host of indulgent activities. This resort-style hotel complex offers 70 accommodation suites, including – my pick – the Deluxe Spa Suite. There are conference and function rooms, a restaurant and cellar door, and an on-site day-spa (if you need a bit of a detox the day after. . .). But their most impressive service is the one they operate with the help of Global Ballooning: the hot air balloon ride that rises with the sun at dawn, all followed up with a Champaign Breakfast. I can’t think of a better way to get a true feel for the Yarra Valley region.

Outlook Hill

If you want the feel of a farm-stay on an actual working Yarra Valley winery, Outlook Hill is it. Self-contained spa suites, cottages and single rooms all perched above and overlooking the grapevines themselves. They offer a complimentary continental breakfast and bottle of wine – not necessarily at the same time, but hey, you’re on holiday! – and is situated not far from Tarrawarra township, smack bang between Yarra Glen and Healesville, two major centres that offer even more food and wine options.

Luxury Accommodation Yarra Valley

If you’re looking for romance, luxury accommodation in the Yarra Valley might be the perfect way to shake things up.

Chateau Yering

Chateau Yering offers marble-accented bathrooms, antique furniture and curtain-folds galore in each room of this sprawling, full 5 star, heritage-listed estate. Leave the 21st Century behind and twist the cap off the day’s cellar door purchase to experience one of the most romantic settings the Yarra Valley offers. Visit Eleonor’s Restaurant for your evening meal (“business or smart casual dress is appropriate”) and the Sweetwater Café for breakfast. They can also cater for your next business retreat, with conference facilities and room enough for the whole office.

Myers Creek Cascades

On the more intimate end of the scale, Myers Creek Cascades offers quiet cottages nestled in a lush, green rainforest setting. One look at the photos of the spa bath view of the ferns and forest gums and we were in! This place is truly unique, standing out as some of the best Yarra Valley accommodation. Choose from one of their ‘Memory Maker’ packages and, if you really must leave, you can explore the range of Healesville attractions nearby.

Boutique Accommodation, Yarra Valley

Maybe you’re looking for something a little edgie and a tad trendy. Well, there is some fantastic boutique accommodation in Yarra Valley. Here’s what we think… for what it’s worth.

Holly Lane Mews

Holly Lane Mews in Steels Creek is our pick for the Yarra Valley’s best pet-friendly boutique bed and breakfast stay. Boasting an incredible garden and only a quick drive to either of the must-see De Bortoli or Yarrawood wineries, it serves as the perfect base for that weekend getaway you’ve been planning. In addition to housing your favourite furry family member, they also have an outdoor pool and serve a continental breakfast until 10:30 am.

Araluen Boutique Villas and Lodge

Also in Steels Creek is the Araluen Boutique Villas and Lodge. This perfect bush-setting retreat is ready for you to rock up, stretch out and use it as a base to then go and explore the surrounding wineries. We dare you to not relax on a hot day by their outdoor pool or to feel pent up wandering the two hectares of landscaped gardens. It’s impossible – believe us! There are communal areas if you’re keen to mingle with any other guests and a free continental breakfast served each morning in their bright, open dining room.

Wine Tours of the Yarra Valley

There it is: your Yarra Valley accommodation sorted. But say you wanted to visit the Yarra Valley just for the day? Hit up the Australian Wine Tour Company. They are experts in the region’s wine and wineries, and they can pick you up and drop you back into central Melbourne, that is if you do want to go back. . . They offer a number of different Yarra Valley wine tour packages, including one with an overnight stay at the Balgownie Estate, mentioned above. They’re sure to put together a luxury winery tour you won’t quickly forget. Tell them we sent you. Check out our top picks for Wine Tours in the Yarra Valley!
